DALLAS -- Michael Finley scored 28 points to overcome a 30-point effort from Yao Ming and guide the Dallas Mavericks to their 12th consecutive win, a 103-90 victory over the Houston Rockets Thursday.

Dirk Nowitzki added 24 points and nine rebounds for the Mavericks (12-0), who set a franchise record for successive wins at any time during a season and posted the fourth best start in NBA history.

Finley had six three-pointers among his haul of 28. Only the Boston Celtics's 14-0 start to the 1957-58 season and the record mark of 15-0 set by Washington in 1948-49 and matched by Houston in 1993-94 are better than the Dallas streak.

Yao had by far his best game as a pro. The 7-foot-6 Chinese, the first overall pick in the NBA draft, had a career high in points and rebounds with 16 while also playing 33 minutes, the most he has appeared in any game to date.

The Rockets, however, slipped to 6-4 despite Yao's 10-for-12 shooting from the field and his 10 of 12 free throws, Reuters reported.

Dallas Coach Don Nelson also tied a personal mark for consecutive wins. His Milwaukee Bucks in 1981-82 won 12 in a row.

Steve Nash added 15 points and eight assists for the Mavericks while Eduardo Najera contributed 14 points and 11 rebounds. Steve Francis added 22 points for the Rockets while Glen Rice chipped in with 16.

Trail Blazers 89 Supersonics 85 In Seattle, Bonzi Wells had 16 points and nine rebounds to lead the Portland Trail Blazers past the Supersonics 89-85.

Rasheed Wallace added 13 points and seven rebounds for Portland, which got back to the .500 mark at 6-6.

Gary Payton had 22 points and 14 assists for Seattle (8-4) while Predrag Drobnjak collected 18 points.

Brent Barry had 14 points, five rebounds and seven assists for the Trail Blazers.
